Why Being Present is Like Winning the Lottery

Have you ever thought what it would feel like to win the lottery?

I have, and I’m willing to be many of you have as well.  Wouldn’t it make retirement planning easier? It might even improve your current work situation, especially if you don’t like where or what you do for a living. Even work may improve especially if you don’t like where or what you do for work.  Winning the lottery would definitely make life easier.

While I can’t guarantee that you’ll win a lottery, I can teach you how to be present, which to me leads to a better chance of winning in life and creating a great feeling (similar to the feeling of having that winning ticket!)

You probably often hear the term being present, and may wonder what it really means.  It is to experience stillness in the mind and body… or something else?  To me, being present means shutting down that busy brain of the to do’s or the hamster wheel of all the voices, and really being in the present moment of your life.

Calming the chatter allows you to be fully with your kids, your lover or a project. The to do list stops, so you get to really experience the moment.  By being present, you’ll be more creative and focused, which will increase productivity. Chances are pretty good your attitude and your patience will also grow too!

Yes, it is possible to tame the mind chatter!  To start, it might be brief moments, because learning to be present is like a muscle that needs to be developed, and as that muscle strengthens, the calmness expands.

When in the present moment, you feel stillness in your mind and body and you become one with your breath. It is the start of greater inner peace, where time can sometimes appear to stop.

Here’s an easy way to get started being present. Set an alarm for 5 minutes.  Then, for those five minutes, focus on your breath going in and out becoming aware of what that feeling is like. Do nice, deep, rhythmic relaxing breaths.  Notice what the breath is like… Fast or slow? What else do you notice? This will help you to come into the present moment.

I’d love to hear your ideas for being in the present, too, so be sure to leave me a comment here on my blog!

And, if you’re in the Nanaimo area and would like to experience something else that has many great benefits and allows you to really get present, I’d love for you to schedule a bodywork session with me.   One of my bodywork sessions will leave you feeling light, melted, inspired, relaxed… and present.  Click here to book a session.  (And if you aren’t in the area, I can still work with you and assist you distantly, so feel free to email me also and we can set a time to talk.)
