7 Ways to Improve Sleep to Improve Business

stressed_woman_2Lack of proper restful sleep could be killing your business.

Poor sleep impacts concentration, attitude, focus, increases procrastination and less creativity, all resulting in not being on the top of your game and so much suffers.

You are not alone, studies report that about 1 in 7 have problems going to sleep or staying a sleep. Insomnia is often connected with stress, chronic pain and a variety of other related health conditions.

The odd night is OK and is normal. Experts recommend 7-9 hours sleep a night is best.

I have been there, and know how a poor sleep impacts business and life and can be a contributing factor to burn-out and many other ailments. There are solutions.

You might be wondering what you can do to improve your sleep naturally. There are a number of things.

  1. Avoid anything stimulating from foods, sugar related items including things like chips, alcohol, strenuous exercise, even some TV shows and video games. These all impact the body’s nervous system, digestion and mental aspects from relaxing because they are busy processing and digesting the stimulation which impacts the bodies natural production of melatonin.
  2. Go to bed in a positive mood. Do some things that make you feel good before bed. Activities like a soothing bath, gentle massage with relaxing essential oils like lavender, marjoram, sandalwood, or listening to some relaxing soothing music.
  3. Complete your day. Take a few minutes to review your day. Reflect what needs to be completed and moved to the next day, acknowledge what you accomplished, notice how that makes you feel. This is also a time if you are worried about something that you can write about it to let go for the time being.
  4. Go beyond current circumstances – if you are going through a particular challenging time, acknowledge the current situation and then imagine seeing beyond it with a positive outcome. In order to do this, it means you will want to take a look at what you could be learning from the situation. One of the things that Don Miguel speaks about in “The 4 Agreements” is that life is not personal. However, sometimes in the heat of the fire it may not feel that way.
  5. Do an attitude check. If you are not feeling positive ask yourself how you could you feel more positive? What could you do to shift yourself? What is your mental mind chatter?
  6. Do a body check in. If you suffer from pain be it physical, mental or emotional, where do you feel it in your body? What message could it be trying to convey to you? The body is always sending messages. However, few have learned to listen to them, in fact many of us have learned to shut them off and put it all on ignore.
  7. Create a plan that supports sleep if you should wake up. Notice what is going on in your mind. If it is a worry or fear, something not so positive, you will want to shift your focus. You can do that by writing about your concern as a way to let it go. Think about some good things that are going on.

If you are really happy and excited, it is hard to sleep because the mind is active with energy, again it needs to relax and calm.

What would happen if you did some deep relaxing breaths and put your focus on the breath? Another, imagine what it would feel like if you were sleeping?

This is an opportunity to be curious about what good things could come from the experience. How could you still wake up feeling rested and alert?

Some people have found taking some herbs like St. John’s Wort, Passionflower or Melatonin can be helpful.

From experience, sometimes it is beneficial to have a few different options to experiment with.

I have found in the past sometimes one thing will work and another time it might be something else. Ultimately, it is about creating peace and calm in life despite the circumstances.

I am a very good sleeper (always have been). The only time I have trouble sleeping is if I’m in a noisy environment (earplugs!) or there is too much light (eye pillow!). I also keep electronics out of the bedroom.

I love sleeping and usually have no trouble sleeping however I do love staying up late which can I in my schedule when I over sleep it get a lack of it due to working early. As I grow I hope to requiem less sleep and remain sustained with proper meditation and harmonization with my body and spirit when I do sleep as they can receive great amounts of cosmic energy when astral traveling. It help for sure to be integrating this energy consciously before and after going to bed. Thanks for this fabulous reminder on how proper sleep affects my business Tammy 03)
