Whispers or Screams? What’s your body saying?

Do you experience in pain in your body or have you developed a way to ignore it?

Maybe you are feeling exhausted, anxiety or that life is a struggle. Is this you?

These are signs that you are out of balance in your body and it is starting to scream.

First comes the whisper. What is a whisper?

It is more subtle, the body is quietly trying to get your attention and speak to you. It may show up as the occasional night of not sleeping or broken sleep, minor ache or pain, headache, bloating, feeling irritable or need to have a glass of wine or comfort food. You may also have feelings of being overwhelmed or that life is challenging and not having the success or fulfillment you desire. It doesn’t last for long.

Then comes the screaming. It is much more regular and a greater degree of discomfort, such as ongoing sleeplessness, pain, high blood pressure, diabetes, having wine or extra food every night. The scream has become consistent and most likely you are feeling more tired or so busy in life you can’t feel anything. You have become numb to it and feel you have good reason why you can’t stop. Your behavior has become a lifestyle habit.

Screaming is like the squeaky brakes on your car, warning signs to get them replaced otherwise one day you will need to stop and you won’t be able to. Waiting too long can get expensive; sometimes beyond repair like totaling the car.

In the body it can show up as pre-mature aging, illness or even pre-mature death.

Your body is always speaking to you.

Are you willing to listen to your body? What is it trying to tell you?

If you start listening to the whispers it will be much easier and faster to course correct than the screams.

5 Ways of starting to listen to your body.

How does your body feel? What body sensations do you notice? What is your breathing like shallow, deep, slow or fast? What is your energy level at different times; when is it high or low?

  1. What do you notice when you procrastinate? What do you notice in your head-mental chatter, your gut or the shoulders?
  2. Being aware of how you feel in different environments, in nature, around people or in other cities. What do you notice?
  3. How do you feel after exercising?
  4. What happens when you are in a difficult situation or are delivered some bad news?
  5. What if you reflect on positive memories or your desires?

This is your body’s wisdom giving you feedback. What is your body starting to tell you? How do you want to feel?

  1. This is awesome – I need this reminder! Why does it often seem hard to remember to listen, and then when I do it’s so easy and wonderful? I get monthly migraines and have journeyed through this for over a decade. But what I am learning is that there is a lesson and a blessing here. I look forward to meditating with my next migraine and not trying to shut it up with painkillers (though I might have one in my back pocket when it gets to that point); but I will take it out under the moon and talk her through your exercise.

I look forward to hearing about your experience next time Amanda. Migraine and cycles can be a bit of a challenge to sort out but it is possible. You may want to do some journalling, tracking for triggers, as well as what is going on in life too.

Ahhhh, yep. My body’s been screaming at me for months — and for the first time ever I actually paid attention, lol. It hasn’t gotten me any answers, but maybe I just need to be with the pain for a while instead of trying to figure out what’s causing it!

You are onto something Brianna. Start being curious with it. Hopefully you are keeping hydrated. I remember a number of years ago having a lot of body pain, that was the start of making some lifestyle changes. The pain showed me I was misaligned with my life.

Oh goodness Susan! I am so sorry this had to happen to you (or that things like this happen to anyone). Close your eyes and feel a big virtual hug. You ceatnirly don't deserve this. Just a thought, have you called your phone? Or perhaps the phone company can trace the phone (or is that just on TV?). My thoughts are with you.

    • I found so many interesting stuff in your blog especially its discussion. From the tons of comments on your articles, I guess I am not the only one having all the enjoyment here! keep up the good work.

Thank you for this reminder to breathe into my body and listen. I do this often in meditation – but then I’m also trying not to think… 🙂

Everything starts with thought… once it manifests into form, the only way to completely reverse it is to work at the origin – thought.

Bodywork, healing practices, etc – all help to shift, move, and bring the energy to the surface to be released… but it takes the thought (intention and willingness) of letting it go to finally answer the whispers + screams. xo

True Alix, maybe have the intention and open to you senses rather then thinking.

I suppose I could call myself in the future and get the the upcoming lotto results. Or make the call to stop disasters and mayhem in the past. But knowing me I’d forget and use the call to just dial a pizza. ClHyPon.(Ctaayward has made 1 comment)

This is a great reminder. I have a lot of shoulder pain when I “take on too much.” I tend to get this a lot before a flight. What do you think it means?

    • tammy says:

Sounds like you are already onto something Angela. Maybe next time see if there is a way of taking less on and see what happens. If you do meditation you could see if you could intuit what the shoulder had to say, what it’s message is.

Very timely. I have been experiencing manor pain on my hand and I know that it is related in more than one way to working on the computer more lately. This is a good reminder to take more breaks and take care of myself and also stop for a moment to listen to my body. Thank you Tammy. XO
