There are several different types of meditation and ways to do it. You don’t have to be sitting on the top of a mountain wearing a robe. In fact it can be done anytime, anywhere. It helps us connect with our greater aspect, gives a different view, often some clarity, can help slow the busy-brain down.
A simple way to try it is focus on your breathing, sit comfortable, close your eyes part way, focus on the breath going in and out, feel the breath going in and out, keep your focus there for 3-4minutes. While doing this if your brain starts zooming just keep taking your focus back to the breath, this is common, it takes practice.
